Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

What is MAT?

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to help people recover from opioid or alcohol addiction. MAT reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms, making it easier to focus on the emotional and psychological aspects of recovery. MAT options available at Resa include Buprenorphine, Buprenorphine-Naloxone (Suboxone®), Brixadi® (Extended-Release Buprenorphine Injection), Sublocade® (Extended-Release Buprenorphine Injection), Naltrexone, and Vivitrol® (Extended-Release Naltrexone).

How MAT Supports Recovery

  • Medications reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • Therapy addresses underlying emotional and behavioral issues
  • Drug testing ensures safe, consistent progress
  • Support groups foster connection and accountability

Why MAT Works

MAT is an evidence-based approach proven to improve treatment outcomes, reduce relapse risk, and support long-term recovery. When paired with counseling, it addresses the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Our MAT options for you

Buprenorphine & Buprenorphine-Naloxone (Suboxone®)
Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, meaning it helps ease cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing the same euphoric effects as other opioids. Buprenorphine-Naloxone (commonly known as Suboxone®) combines buprenorphine with naloxone, which serves as a safeguard to help ensure the medication is used safely. The naloxone component remains inactive when Suboxone is taken as prescribed but becomes active if the medication is misused, reinforcing accountability and safety in treatment.

Brixadi® (Extended-Release Buprenorphine Injection)
Brixadi® is an extended-release injectable form of buprenorphine used to treat opioid use disorder. It provides steady, controlled medication release through weekly or monthly injections, helping reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Because it is administered by a healthcare provider and designed for long-lasting support, Brixadi helps improve treatment consistency and removes the need for daily dosing.

Sublocade® (Extended-Release Buprenorphine Injection)
Sublocade® is a once-monthly injection of buprenorphine used to treat opioid dependence. After being administered under the skin, it forms a small depot that slowly releases buprenorphine throughout the month, providing stable control of cravings and withdrawal symptoms. As a provider-administered option, Sublocade supports treatment adherence by removing the need for daily medication.

Naltrexone
Naltrexone is a non-addictive opioid antagonist that blocks the effects of opioids on the brain’s receptors. It can also help reduce cravings for alcohol. Because it doesn’t produce dependence or withdrawal, it’s often used after detox to help prevent relapse. Naltrexone is available as a daily tablet or an injectable medication.

Vivitrol® (Extended-Release Naltrexone)
Vivitrol® is the extended-release injectable form of naltrexone, given once a month by a healthcare provider. It continuously blocks the euphoric and sedative effects of opioids or alcohol, helping individuals maintain their recovery without the need for daily medication.
